Romancing the Slug

During yesterday’s slugfari I stumbled upon these two slugs entwined in the throes of passion up a tree. At first I blushed and felt guilty about my voyeurism. But, then I reminded myself, I am a grown up and a professional.

I quickly recovered and snapped a few shots while singing, “Slug and second slug sitting in a tree, B-R-E-E-D-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes 80 or so babies in a golden carriage.”

Since they are hermaphrodites, they fertilize each other — it’s quite a production.

It doesn’t look comfortable, does it?  I wondered if they are identical twins, and if so, do deformed slugs hatch when related slugs breed?
